Study of Ceftriaxone In ALS Seeks Participants
A multicenter study of intravenous
ceftriaxone in patients with amyotrophic
lateral sclerosis (ALS) remains
open.
Ceftriaxone is an antibiotic that
may improve the clearance of glutamate,
a potentially toxic nervous system
chemical, from the area around motor
neurons, the cells that are destroyed
in ALS.
Participants must meet study requirements,
including adequate respiratory function
and willingness to have a central
venous catheter placed in a vein above
the heart, through which the study
medication or a placebo will be given.
For details, see Ceftriaxone: Trial
in Subjects With ALS.
